About CBD

Crash Course on CBD.

One of the negative effects of global narcotics regulations, especially here in the US, is that it has been nearly impossible to conduct research on the benefits that can be derived from the source of any natural plant listed as a Class 1 substance. No natural source of healing has been more impacted by these policies, than Cannabis. Plants, like hemp and marijuana that had been classified as Class 1 substances, were off limits for researchers and medical studies for a very long time.

Hemp, and its cousin, Marijuana are both Cannabis plants. The cannabis plant has more than 144 cannabinoids. Up until the recent legalization of hemp, the only Cannabinoid that was commonly known, was THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). However, legalization and declassification of hemp as a controlled substance has opened the floodgates to research on the other 100 or so cannabinoids.

One that has risen to the top over the past few years is Cannabidiol (CBD), which has increasingly gained attention for its therapeutic benefits. Cannabidiol has been particularly effective in the treatment of chronic pain, Crohn’s, diabetes, arthritis, anxiety, and other conditions that have been historically difficult to treat, including PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome).

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol or CBD is a component of the cannabis plant with enormous healing potential. According to Project CBD, “Scientists refer to CBD as a ‘promiscuous’ compound because it offers therapeutic benefits in many different ways…tapping into how we function physiologically and biologically on a deep level.”

Specifically, CBD acts on the Endocannabinoid System, which is a recently discovered biochemical communication system in the human body. It plays an important role in regulating our physiology, mood, and everyday experience.

Endocannabinoid receptors respond to cannabinoid compounds that our own bodies make, and they respond to similar compounds in cannabis. It’s like nature made a plant to help us heal when we couldn’t heal ourselves!

our story

What can CBD treat?

Extensive research and some clinical studies have shown that CBD has strong anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, anti-depressant, anti-psychotic, anti-tumoral, and neuroprotective qualities. Plus, it feels like every day new benefits are coming out of studies. We don’t pretend to sell CDB as a cure all for all ailments, but we encourage our customers to seek out studies on all claims made by us or other vendors. Like this amazing breakthrough, an initial study found that cannabidiol can change gene expression and remove beta amyloid plaque, the hallmark of Alzheimer’s, from brain cells. That could be a “gamechanger” against a debilitating disease.

A word of Caution.

While we’re incredibly grateful for the healing properties of the CBD, and excited for new discoveries we’re sure will come . . . we also want to make sure you’re safely exploring CBD with caution and prudence. Be cognizant that you’re introducing something new to your body. Be mindful that you don’t know how you will react. So start small. And don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor about CBD and other homecare therapeutics.
